DETAILS

We are all continuing to adjust to changes in our lives due to Covid-19 (“coronavirus”). We are adapting to new expectations around social distancing and, in some cases, “sheltering in place.” Our routines have been disrupted, and our sense of economic security is stressed. With such uncertainty, we may feel ill at ease, or anxious. However, current circumstances also afford us an opportunity to explore creative ways to connect with ourselves, and with others.

Since a “shelter in place” order was issued for Savannah, our community Qigong groups have (for the most part) been placed on hiatus. So we are beginning to develop some online offerings as we adapt to our new situation.

As our first online project, Gerald will begin hosting gatherings to share mindfulness and Qigong meditation practices. Each session will focus on a few simple techniques that you can easily practice on your own. There will also be some audio resources to support your personal practice.

Gerald has been a Vipassana and Zen meditation student for more than a decade, and has previously taught mindfulness meditation. He is also a certified Level 2 instructor in the Long White Cloud Qigong school, and the coordinator of the Savannah Qigong Collaborative teachers group. Gerald will share practical and accessible meditation and Qigong practices. Recurring themes will be mindfulness in daily life, stress reduction, working with our internal energy, and connecting to ourselves and to others in a compassionate way.

Anyone is welcome to join any of these online groups—even if you have no prior experience with meditation or Qigong. This could be a great opportunity to learn about, return to, or strengthen your own meditation practice. You may join any group, step away, and come back as your schedule and circumstances permit.

Sessions will be hosted as a Zoom online meeting. You do not need to have a Zoom account to participate. For first time users who do not have an account, the link provided in the invitation will prompt you to download the Zoom software, which is quickly and easily installed. You may also bypass that step if your web browser allows you to directly connect to the meeting.

Of course, you will need some basic equipment!

  • Your desktop / laptop (Mac or PC) or tablet will likely have a built-in video camera and audio microphone and speaker–or you may have external devices already connected.
  • Your wireless connection should be broadband wired or wireless.
  • Your mobile device should also work, as long as you can install the Zoom app.
  • No other equipment is needed, other than a quiet space and cushion or chair that you can set yourself down on.

To receive a personal invitation, simply message us at savannahqigong@gmail.com, or via Facebook. The invitation links are posted at the top of this announcement, and below. They will also be posted in the Qigong Savannah Facebook group. There will be no charge to participate in these sessions.

Here is the planned schedule, beginning Thursday, March 26. All times are Eastern Daylight EDT (UTC -4.0 hrs). We will try these for awhile and adjust as needed. If these time don’t work for you, let us know, and we’ll see what we might do!
