The Savannah Mile Race happens on the morning of Sat. May 25. The staging area is the southwest corner of Forsyth Park where we usually meet for community practice. This means that the park will be crowded and parking will be difficult. So we will not have practice this Saturday. Thanks for visiting, hope to see you soon at a community practice!

A global wellness event, World Tai Chi and Qigong Day 2019 will unfold across the planet on
SATURDAY, APRIL 27, 2019 at 10:00 AM in each time zone
Savannah area teachers and practitioners of Tai Chi and Qigong will mark this special day with a community practice in FORSYTH PARK, between Whitaker St. and the Fountain. An orientation will be offered at 9:45, with guided community practice beginning at 10:00 AM.
No prior experience is necessary; beginners are welcome.
The event is FREE.
On Saturday, April 27 at 10 AM local time worldwide, events begin … starting in the earliest time zones of New Zealand, where mass Tai Chi and Qigong teach-ins and exhibitions are held that are FREE and OPEN to the PUBLIC. Then, events unfold across Australia, Asia, Europe, Africa, and North and South America. This worldwide wave of community activity for wellness ends with its final events in Hawaii.
In China, Tai Chi and Qigong are cornerstone practices for recreation, martial arts, and wellness care. As Tai Chi and Qigong become better known in other countries, trainers and health care providers are discovering these practice can improve muscular strength, reduce blood pressure, boost the immune system, relieve symptoms of stress, depression, and chronic pain, and dramatically improve balance. Peer-reviewed studies (e.g., National Institutes of Health, New England Journal of Medicine, Harvard Medical School, University of Kansas Hospital) point to the potential for life changing benefits from regular practice.
World Tai Chi & Qigong Day has been officially proclaimed, recognized, or supported by 22 US Governors; the Senates of Puerto Rico, California, and New York; by consulates and embassies from Italy to the U.S., China to India, and by government ministries and bodies in countries worldwide.

The teachers and community practice leaders of the Savannah Qigong Collaborative welcome you to our new website. We invite you to experience the physical, mental, and spiritual benefits of group Qigong practice at a number of locations in the area.
WHAT IS QIGONG? The Chinese characters for Qigong (“Chee Gong”) can be translated as “Life Energy Cultivation.” The term encompasses a range of systems and practices that emphasize coordinated and mindful body alignment, movement, breathing, and meditation. (Qigong is closely related to Tai Chi, an alternate form and style of mind / body practice.) Qigong philosophy and practices are foundational aspects of traditional Chinese medicine and martial arts training. Various styles of Qigong are practiced throughout China, and Qigong is becoming more popular worldwide for recreation, gentle exercise, and the promotion of wellness. Current medical research into applications of Qigong and Tai Chi points to a range of benefits for both physical and mental health.
IS IT FOR ME? Forget the media images of martial arts masters in traditional clothing! No expertise or experience is required to practice Qigong in a group setting. Some participants have just started learning about Qigong, while others have been practicing solo and in groups for years. Beginners are always welcome at any group session. If you are challenged by physical or mobility issues, we encourage you to ask a teacher about how Qigong practice might be adapted for your particular situation. (Before embarking on any new type of exercise or activity, consult with your doctor or health care provider. Participants are responsible for their own self-care.)
WHAT DOES IT COST? There is no charge for attending practice sessions offered by teachers and practice leaders of the Savannah Qigong Collaborative. Their work is offered in the spirit of promoting wellness in the community. Donations may be occasionally be requested for special classes offered by SQC teachers, or to support the venues that host practice sessions. (Individual teachers may also offer for-charge lessons outside of regularly scheduled community practice times.)
